Product Details

This is the one in the Hot muk range that only protects. No hold, no texture, nothing to work with. That is the point of it: because it adds nothing, it goes under everything else, and it is the first thing on the hair after a wash.

It micro encapsulates each strand to shield hair from the heat of thermal styling tools up to 230°C. The finish is weightless and non-greasy, so it does not sit on the hair or cost you volume, and the UV filters guard against colour fade and sun damage while locking out the frizz that humidity causes.

It works two ways, and the amount changes. Liberally through towel dried hair before a blow dry. A light mist onto each dry section immediately before an iron or a curler.

How To Use

  1. Towel dry your hair after washing and conditioning.

  4. For hot tools instead, dry your hair off first, then mist lightly onto each section immediately before you iron or curl it.

TIPS FROM MUK

Put it on before your styling product rather than after. Our muk in-house professional hairdressers treat it as the base layer for the same reason they use a primer: it goes on wet, it adds nothing, and whatever comes next sits on top of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need this if my styling product already protects?

Not necessarily, and it depends which one. The Hot muk Styling Cream, the 6 in 1 Working Spray and the Smoothing Serum all protect to the same 230°C on their own. Our muk in-house professional hairdressers still use this one underneath on hair that is coloured, fine or already damaged, because it is the only one that goes on soaking wet, and heat does most of its damage on the way from wet to dry.

How much should I use?

More than you would expect for a blow dry, and much less for an iron. Blow drying spreads heat across the whole head over several minutes, so the hair wants a liberal, even coat from roots to ends. A flat iron concentrates the same heat into one pass, so a light mist on each section is enough and anything more can sizzle.

Will it make my hair feel heavy or look flat?

No. It is a weightless, non-greasy formula, and it was built that way specifically so it can be used liberally without costing you volume. If your hair does feel weighed down, our muk in-house professional hairdressers would check where you are applying it: heat protection belongs from the mid-lengths down more than at the roots.

Does it protect against the sun as well?

Yes. The UV filters guard against colour fade and sun damage, which matters most on coloured hair over an Australian summer. It is not a substitute for a hat, and it is not sun protection for skin, but it does mean the same product covering your dryer is also covering your walk to work.
